This is not a mainstream tour – it’s a respectful journey through one of Medellín’s most remarkable barrios. On this 3-hour walking tour, we explore Moravia, once known as the city’s most densely populated area and former garbage dump. Today, it’s a community-led success story, shaped by grassroots efforts, education, and a strong social fabric.
You’ll be guided by a local community leader who grew up in Moravia and has actively participated in its transformation. Together, we’ll explore hidden alleys, the iconic hillside garden built over the old dump, and colorful murals that narrate the collective memory of the neighborhood.
What makes this tour special is the depth and honesty it offers: We’ll talk about the real-life challenges of informal settlements, the impact of Medellín’s urban transformation programs, and the invisible systems that shape people’s everyday lives – from healthcare to education and social housing.
This is a space of authentic connection, not poverty tourism. We keep groups small, compensate local guides fairly, and reinvest a part of your fee into community projects.
